Updated April 19, 2013.

We created this blog for updates about So Young Gage, who was diagnosed with an astrocytoma (a type of brain tumor) in her right thalamus and brain stem on November 12, 2010. So Young went to be with the Lord on February 28, 2013. She was 40 years old. So Young is survived by James, her husband of 15 years, and her three daughters, Shannon, Lindsay, and Audrey.

The purpose of this site is to encourage everyone running life’s race. So Young wants you to know that God is good and loves you, and no matter what you are going through, nothing can change that.

If you are interested in finding out how we got here, James (So Young’s husband) wrote several background posts:

How it Began: Part 1

How it Began: Part 2

How it Began: Part 3

How it Began: Part 4

How it Began: Part 5

We have quite a few posts on the blog, but here are a few of our favorites:

  1. Dear So Young and James,
I met you and your family at lunch after the first MCM Half Marathon. You seemed to light up the room and now I know why. Thank you for such a powerful testimony. Your joy leaps off the screen. I particularly liked the quotes from the book of James. I will have to read it in its entirety. I think it will help me as I deal with issues surrounding elderly family members. You are an inspiration. Something for me to aspire to.
I think it took a lot of faith for you to ask God to give you a better testimony, not knowing in what form it would take, but willing to accept it. As Mary said at the Anunciation, “Not my will, but Thine …”
I have been praying for you to have the “peace that passeth understanding” and was pleased to read you feel it. It is an awesome feeling to feel that grace. I will continue to pray for you and your family as you all continue this journey.
One of my favorite hymns is “God Will Take Care of You” with the chorus,
“God will take care of you
Through every day, o’er all the way.
He will take care of you,
God will take care of you.”

  2. Hi So Young and James,
I just wanted to let you know that I continue to pray for your healing and peace and the perfect portion of strength for each day. I just wanted to take the time to send you a shout out and virtual hug. We met many, many years ago by way of Kim Davis.

    Much Love and Blessings,
    Barika (Toatley) Porter

  5. Dear James and So Young,
We heard of you guys through your mother (James), Doris Gage. We are missionaries who are currently being supported by your mothers church. She told us So Young’s story and your families journey. We have 5 girls, ages 5 to 16 and we all prayed for you as a family tonight. Your family will continue to be in our prayers! May the comfort of the Holy Spirit and the strength and peace of Jesus Christ fill you everyday.
    Love to your family,
    The Wadhams Family

  6. Praising God for the strength you have shown during this difficult season. Praying that God will heal your heart give you peace as His will for So Young becomes clearer.
